Announcement of the exhibition of Ivan Listeš’s academic artist in the PIKTO Gallery in Zagreb
The opening of the solo exhibition of Ivan Listeš’s academic artist entitled “The North” will be held on Monday, October 30, 2017 at 7 pm in the PIKTO Gallery in Zagreb. The exhibition is open until November 12, 2017. In the new cycle of the painting, the artist interprets the problems of today through traditional Dalmatian motifs.
“In the last few years the twist of dreams and talk, the reality and fiction, concrete and abstract, conscious and unconscious, possible and desired is the main feature of Ivan Listeš’s painting. However, in the new cycle of strong complementary contrasts, replaces a milder, more calm tone color, while the crowd of events with a lot of characters gives way to an archiepiscal character or an indigenous Dalmatian animal. The surface of the image is no longer so solid and material, the details are lost, and the focus is on the composition, the image space, and the design of the dominant gaps. The transition from the symbolic interpretation of the current state to metaphysics takes place in parallel with the ever-increasing degradation of society and the quality of life of an individual in our country. Work titles keep up-to-date with this content change and become more general and more contemplative as the name Between, Lost, Outbreak, Passing …
… Numerous events in the past year such as fire, alienation, isolation, extinction of tradition and moral values, as well as waves of emigration from Croatia have directly affected the artistic expression of artists. The listener’s world becomes increasingly abandoned and lonely …
Emptiness, space and time become the focus of the latest cycle of Ivana Listeš’s works, and point out observers to seemingly sporadic moments in an individual’s life that actually become key and sometimes crucial moments in our lives, as confirmed by Hippocrates’ finding that we face opportunities in time, while on opportunistic occasions we come in time. ”
